Many club golfers struggle to make consistent contact when chipping, all too often hitting it either fat or thin.
One of the simplest, and best, drills to improve the consistency of contact, feel and distance judgement is to hit shots standing on one leg.
Start by taking your normal set up position and then lift your trail leg from the ground completely so you are balanced on the one closest to the target.
For support place the toe of the lifted leg on the ground while maintaining the same pressure on the lead leg.
Make some practice swings ensuring balance is maintained throughout the swing movement.
You should find very quickly that the point of contact becomes better and more consistent.
Once you are confident making practice swings try introducing the ball and hitting hit from the same position and with the same balance.
You can then begin to place the trail foot back on the ground as normal while trying to achieve the same feel as the drill.
